Mapping community climate action in Belfast City Region

The Community Climate Action Working Group of Belfast Climate Commission has commenced an innovative research project on community climate action in the Belfast City Region. The first working group to be established by Belfast Climate Commission, the Community Climate Action Working Group (CCAWG) is an exciting partnership of individuals and groups from the community, voluntary, environmental and public sectors committed to transformative climate action in partnership with and in communities across Belfast.

COP26 Fellows' work will inform Glasgow summit

Four researchers have been awarded unique Fellowships to engage with the international climate negotiations in the run up to the 26th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26). Harriet Thew (University of Leeds), Jessica Omukuti (University of York), Thomas Hale (University of Oxford) and Rebecca Ford (University of Strathclyde) have been commended by COP26 President, Alok Sharma.

New report urges banks to support just transition to a sustainable and inclusive economy in wake of pandemic

Banks need to work with the government to create a new and more resilient model of prosperity that will enable the UK to build back better in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report  published today (July 14th) by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Urgent action required: Edinburgh Climate Commission's green recovery report

Ensuring that Edinburgh’s future infrastructure and capital investments contribute to a green future is just one of the recommendations for a green recovery in a report produced by the Edinburgh Climate Commission. The Commission’s inaugural report sets out 10 recommendations for Edinburgh’s green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and will be considered by the City of Edinburgh Council’s Policy and Sustainability Committee on Thursday 9 July.

Doncaster Climate Commission publishes positive interim report with ambitious 2030 climate change target

Doncaster’s Commission on the Climate and Biodiversity Emergency set up by Mayor Ros Jones and chaired by Ed Miliband MP has published its first statement on the progress made. A Climate and Biodiversity Emergency was unanimously backed by Full Council in September 2019 and the Commission established to set targets and actions for the whole borough which puts Doncaster as a frontrunner for tackling climate change.

Residents want local authorities to act on climate change and to be part of the solution, new research shows

Research released today funded by PCAN (the Place-Based Climate Action Network) and carried out in partnership with Abundance Investment finds that residents want local authorities to act on climate change and are attracted by the prospect of being part of a collective solution. 

First PCAN Network meeting held

PCAN organised its first virtual networking meeting for climate commissions - and those interested in starting one - on 10 June 2020.

Forty people attended the online event, with representation from across 15 different local authority areas, from established Commissions in Leeds, Belfast and Edinburgh to newer commissions in Lincoln, Surrey, Doncaster and Croydon and areas considering creating climate commissions like York and Kirklees.
