Climate Action Readiness Assessment to inform new directions for Leeds Commission

A Climate Action Readiness Assessment devised by PCAN researchers for Leeds Climate Commission has identified opportunities for unlocking climate action at the local level.

The methodology, which uses participatory stakeholder workshops to determine states of readiness, was presented at a webinar for the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2020 on Tuesday 10 November on behalf of PCAN (the Place-Based Climate Action Network).

Yorkshire-wide approach to carbon reduction needed

Carbon emissions from Yorkshire and Humber have fallen by well over a third and are projected to halve by 2050, a new report from the Place-Based Climate Action Network (PCAN) reveals. 
 
A summary carbon roadmap report for Yorkshire and the Humber, published today, shows that despite the reductions – brought about largely by national decarbonisation of electricity – the region still has much to do to stay within its share of the global carbon budget and reduce dangerous climate change. 
 

PCAN Fund 2020 awards announced

Place-based projects in the UK have been awarded a total of £160K in the second round of the PCAN Fund.

The funding call, designed to stimulate wider place-based climate action, received more than 150 expressions of interest. These were reviewed by the PCAN team and a shortlist of 19 were asked to provide further information about their proposed projects.

Mapping community climate action in Belfast City Region

The Community Climate Action Working Group of Belfast Climate Commission has commenced an innovative research project on community climate action in the Belfast City Region. The first working group to be established by Belfast Climate Commission, the Community Climate Action Working Group (CCAWG) is an exciting partnership of individuals and groups from the community, voluntary, environmental and public sectors committed to transformative climate action in partnership with and in communities across Belfast.

COP26 Fellows' work will inform Glasgow summit

Four researchers have been awarded unique Fellowships to engage with the international climate negotiations in the run up to the 26th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26). Harriet Thew (University of Leeds), Jessica Omukuti (University of York), Thomas Hale (University of Oxford) and Rebecca Ford (University of Strathclyde) have been commended by COP26 President, Alok Sharma.
